Joan M. (Maloney) Newton

Joan M. Newton was born on November 14, 1932, in Waterbury, CT, and passed away on November 22, 2022, in Torrington, CT, at the age of 90 years and 8 days.  She was the oldest of four children born to the late Charles and Ethel (Nurenberg) Maloney and was raised in Wolcott, CT.

Joan started her working career as a young girl at Southern New England Telephone Company (AT&T).  She later became supervisor of the Torrington branch office.  After her retirement from AT&T, she enjoyed working at various retail stores such as Bed Bath & Beyond and Borders Books in Avon.

In 1969 Joan married John Newton and they resided in Torrington.  She lovingly became a Mom, and cared for John’s three children, all under the age of ten, as if they were her own.

Mom enjoyed striking up a conversation with anyone about any sport or athlete.  She especially enjoyed UConn Huskies Basketball, The Yankees, and Sunday afternoon football.

Mom was an avid reader and would get engrossed by any crime novel.  She was a fast reader and could finish a good back in less than two days.

Mom also loved to ship, and shop, and shop, whether it be at the mall, or ordering from QVC….

Joan is survived by her two daughters, Nancy (Chip) Sabia and Sandi (Emilio) Bossone, her brother Joe Maloney and sister Meg LaRose, along with several nieces and nephews.  Joan was predeceased by husband John, son Michael and her sister Dorie.

There are no calling hours.  Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
