J. Eric Chadwick

J. Eric Chadwick, age 93, of Presto, Pennsylvania, formerly of Goshen and Torrington, died on Saturday, November 15, 2014, following a short illness.

Eric was born September 7, 1921 in Torrington, the son of the late Joseph and Hilda (Farrell) Chadwick.

Eric serviced his country during the Second World War as a pharmacist mate in the U.S Navy and a corp men in the U.S. Marines. While in the U.S. Navy, Eric participated in the battles of Midway, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Guadalcanal and other South Pacific battles. Following WWII, Eric co-founded and operated the Ajax Manufacturing Company. Eric served as a member of the Torrington City Council from 1957 thru1961 and was elected Mayor of Torrington, serving from 1961 thru 1963. In 1964 Eric became a partner and CEO of Asquared Industries Inc, retiring in 1985.

Eric served on the board of the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, the board of the Connecticut Bank and Trust, a corporator of the Torrington Savings Bank, a corporator of the Brooker Memorial and numerous other civic and community charities and organizations.

Eric was a loving and devoted widower to his wife of 65 years, Ruth Ellis Chadwick, and was a caring father, grandfather and great grandfather, whose love, guidance and mentoring will be dearly missed by his family.

Eric is survived by a son John E. "Jack" Chadwick and his wife Margaret of Presto, Pennsylvania, a son Edwin R. "Ted" Chadwick and his wife Kathleen of Goshen, and a daughter Carol C. Kenner and her husband Todd of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Eric was the proud grandfather of J. Eric Chadwick II, Steven, Christopher, Ryan, Andrew and Meredith Chadwick and Robert, Matthew and Emily Kenner. Eric was a loving great grandfather to J. Eric Chadwick III, Ainsley, Jack, Lauren, Emily, Benjamin and Liam Chadwick, Taylor and Gavin Smart and Corinne Chadwick.  He is also survived by two sisters, Jeanne Minetti and Marilyn Marchand both of Torrington as well as one brother, Robert Chadwick and his wife Terri of Mount Pleasant, SC.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield, Street, Torrington, CT. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Hillside Cemetery in Torrington
