Jean (Nicholson) Murphy

Well, I guess I have moved on! It’s OK, I’ve had a good life. And now I am with my Lord and my loved ones who have already passed on.

I was born on Long Island, and moved to Litchfield in 1955 and joined the First Congregational Church. I was a good girl; my parents (Angus Graham and Louise Dunham Nicholson) were very proud of me. I was an admirable student and graduated on the Dean’s List from Elmira College. I landed a job with RCA, Hartford, CT, in their Computer Division. I was responsible for the computer operations at Connecticut General Life Insurance Company and Anaconda Brass in Waterbury. I have an amazing brother, Angus Graham Nicholson and wonderful sister-in-law Bonnie who live in Plainville, CT.

In 1968 I married my best friend and soul-mate Dennis (Bear) Murphy, who pre-deceased me in 2001. We had 3 wonderful children: DJ, Darren and Lesley. They eventually married terrific mates: DJ married Nan Barnes, Darren married Lindsay Peelman and Lesley married Rey Budny. All were welcomed with open arms!

During my early married life, I served on the Litchfield PTA, was a member and Treasurer of the Aid to the Connecticut Junior Republic, and member and Treasurer of the Litchfield Forum. I served 10 years on the Board of Education and helped manage my husband’s businesses.

I have 3 amazing Grandchildren! Ethan, Cameron and Catherine, who are all very talented and gifted. I started Inkredible Stuff Marketing and The Franklin Print Shop with DJ and Lesley. After retiring, I helped some friends with their bookkeeping. – “The Highs were higher and the Lows were lower!” I wouldn’t change a thing! See you all later!!

Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 3, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 21 Torrington Rd., Litchfield, CT 06759.  Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at the First Congregational Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Jean to the Possum Queen Foundation, P. O. Box 1507, Litchfield, CT 06759.
