Jean Gelormino, of Torrington, passed away on Friday December 29, 2023, at Apple Care Rehab in
Cromwell. Her departure follows a courageous battle with Alzheimer's, a journey she faced with
resilience, humor, and grace.
Jean was born in Torrington on March 12, 1943, to August and Adrienne Mahieu. She was raised with
strong connections to serving her community through the French Congregational Church, United
Congregational Church, the East Litchfield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and the Lions Club of
Torrington. Not only was she a Melvin Jones Award recipient, past president, and lifetime member of
the Lions Club of Torrington, Jean embraced a myriad of volunteer roles, tirelessly fundraising and
providing essential services to uplift her community. Jean and John liked to travel to Florida each
winter to get a break from the cold and enjoyed visiting friends along the way. Many great memories
were created with family and friends at the lake cottages in Goshen and Kent. Jean also was a
wonderful hostess and a wiz in the kitchen where she would produce very memorable meals and
desserts for her family and guests. Many enjoyed time in the kitchen with her as it was special bonding
time where she shared some of her secrets. Over the years she worked at Turner and Seymour in
Torrington, Charles House & Company in Unionville, and True Value Hardware in Litchfield and
Torrington.
Jean is predeceased by her parents and her brother, Roger Mahieu. She is survived by her husband,
John Gelormino, of Torrington, her sisters-in-law, Judy Mahieu, Carol (Lee) Cable, Shirley Smith, and
Katherine (Bill) Newell. She is also survived by her children, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Stull of Lawton MI, Laura
(Tammy) Stull of Cromwell CT, and Kenneth Stull of Torrington and her stepchildren Jared Gelormino of
West Stockbridge MA, Scott Gelormino of Connecticut, Marc Gelormino of Italy and Julie Starling of
California. She is also survived by her grandchildren Abigail Stull, Maxwell Stull, Ethan Stull, Grant
Weaver, Ruth Weaver, Zachary Stull, and Nathaniel Stull.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Lions Club of Torrington,
PO Box 81, Torrington CT 06790 or online via https://everloved.com/life-of/jean-gelormino/donate/ so
that she can provide one more act of service to the community.
