James T. Shupenis

d. February 7, 2022

San Jose, CA and Henderson, NV

James T. Shupenis, 75 of San Jose, CA and Henderson, NV passed away unexpectedly on February 7, 2022.  Born in Waterbury, CT, he was the son of the late Joseph Shupenis and Anna Kacergius.

Jim left CT to join the United States Air Force.  This experience ignited a passion for world travel that never waned.  California became his home, where he received both his MSEE & BSEE in a double degree program on top of his MBA.  Early in his career Jim managed senior level employees at Raytheon Semiconductor on radar, navigation, and missile guidance technologies before moving onto Hitachi and Agilent Technologies in California.  Jim retired in 2005, moved to Nevada and became a professional golfer.  Golf and retirement were just not as exciting as space missile defense and thread deterrent military systems.  Jim returned to the workforce as a civil employee of DCMA of DoD [Defense Contract Management Agency].  Jim’s last assignment was at the Lockheed Martin Air Force base, again in sunny CA.

Jim remained very active throughout his life, biking everywhere he needed to go.  His passion for life was apparent in everything he did, from golfing around the world, spending extensive time in Southeast Asia to enjoying new and exciting restaurants with friends.  Jim’s essence bestowed a wonderful gift to those who knew him best.  He lived and died exactly as he chose.

Jim is survived by siblings Joseph (Barbara) Shupenis of Bethlehem, CT, Rosanne Tullock, Northfield, CT, Raymond (Christine), Eastam, MA and Cecilia (Charles) Carlson of York, SC as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

An in-person memorial service in CT will be held at a future date.  Due to Covid restrictions a virtual service will be held March 10, 2022.
