Howard Waltos passed away at home in Torrington, CT on October 20, 2024. He was the husband of the late Kathleen “Cookie” (Alicky) Waltos. Howard was born in Torrington, on July 24, 1927, a son of the late Charles and Aline (Mougenot) Waltos and was a lifelong Torrington resident.
Howard served during World War II in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS North Carolina “BB55” in the Pacific Theater and later served on the USS Spangenberg “DE-223”. After being honorably discharged he was called back to service for the Korean War and served in the U.S. Navy again, this time aboard USS Patapsco “AOG-1”. Later in life, he retired as an employee of the Torrington School system.
Howard and his wife Cookie enjoyed many summers at a home in Prince Edward Island, Canada, and in Ware, Massachusetts.
Howard is survived by two younger sisters, Leonore Patterson of Litchfield and Elaine Turri of Torrington, along with members of younger generations. He was pre-deceased by an older brother, Roger Waltos of Torrington, who was also a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis New Cemetery, 863 South Main Street, Torrington. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Cook Funeral Home.
