Henry Borowy, 94, of Torrington, CT, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at his residence with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Elsie (Muckle) Borowy.
Henry was born June 10, 1920 in Bristol, CT, son of the late Damazy and Anna Borowy. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge in January of 1946, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, The Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Philippine Liberation ribbon with one Bronze Service Star. He was employed by Gedney Electric until his retirement. He enjoyed going to Polka dances.
He is survived by two sons, Henry Borowy, Jr. of Torrington, Dennis Borowy of Hanover, New Hampshire; two daughters, Ann Hughes of Churchville, MD, Mary Borowy Cardillo of Winchester Center, CT; two sisters, Eva and Helen; three grandchildren, one great grandchild, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Elsie, he was preceded in death by one son, John Borowy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
