Gloria (Spielman) Smith

Gloria L. (Spielman) Smith, 86, of Falls Village, CT, peacefully passed away at her home where she lived with her dog Jack on Thursday, October 22, 2020.  She was the wife of the late Carl Smith, and daughter of the late Lucy Spielman.

She graduated from Barry University in Miami with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  She was the president of the Republican Women’s Club of Oxford, CT where she made her home for 45 years.  She worked for VNA in well baby care and Kelly Health Services after raising her family.

She loved crafting, painting, gardening and was an avid reader.

In the 1970’s and 1980’s she was an active supporter and coach for the Seymour Special Olympics.  She also was an active member of the Falls Village Senior Center and enjoyed her friends there very much.

After her husband passed, she would enjoy wintering in Florida with family and friends. Always willing to help out, she was constantly on the go.

Gloria is survived by three daughters, Lyn Bouteneff and her husband Alex of Litchfield, CT, Doreen Smith of Torrington, CT, Pamela Troup and her husband Robert of Pleasantville, OH; three grandsons, Thomas, Andrew and James Troup; a cousin Stefani Tye of Fort Pierce, Florida,  as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Canaan, CT 06018.  Relatives and friends attending the services are reminded to follow CDC recommendations for COVID prevention, including social distancing and wearing face masks.
