Giovanna (Guadagnuolo) Zaffina

Giovanna (Guadagnuolo) Zaffina, 88, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Litchfield Woods surrounded by her family.  She was the wife of the late Michele Zaffina.

Giovanna was born January 1, 1928, in Sambiase, Italy, daughter of the late Maria Grazia and Francesco Guadagnuolo.  She traveled to the United States with her husband and two young sons during March of 1963.  A lifelong communicant of St. Peter Church, she was also a member of the Holy Rosary Society and of the St. Anne Society.  She enjoyed preparing many meals for her loving family, and was devoted to the Lord, reciting daily rosaries.

She is survived by one son, Pietro Zaffina and his wife Barbara; one daughter, Annamaria Chiaravalloti and her husband Franco; her daughter-in-law, Giovanna Zaffina (wife of Gennaro), all of Torrington; two sisters, Maria Perso and Natalina Provenzano of Italy; eight grandchildren, Michael Zaffina, Daniela Zaffina Sturm, Sabrina Zaffina, Giovanna, Veronica and Peter Zaffina, Francesco and Michael Chiaravalloti; eight great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Gennaro Zaffina.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, CT, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.  Entombment will follow in St. Peter Mausoleum.  Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
