Gina (Rigolli) Solari

November 14, 1919 — October 9, 2016

Gina Rigolli Solari died peacefully in Danbury on October 9, 2016, just shy of her 97th birthday. She was the wife of her loving husband, the late John Solari and lived a full, energetic life in her Torrington home of 55 years.

Gina was born November 14, 1919, in Vicannino, Italy, daughter of the late Ernesto Rigolli and Teresa (Secci) Rigolli. She came to America to build a better life for her family.  She worked at The Torrington Company as an Quality Inspector for 30 years and later retired to enjoy an active and happy life with her family.

Gina is survived by her daughter, Joann and her husband Barry Gosselin of Danbury and her grandson, Jim and his lovely wife Becky, both teachers, who she was very proud of. Her pride and joy were her three adoring great grandchildren, Nixon, Zoie, and Nash. She was their loving "Nonnie" and they spent wonderful quality time with her. She is also survived by one brother, Piero Rigolli as well as one sister, Childe Cavaciutei. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lillian Solari.

Gina was the most amazing woman that people have ever met. She was loved by everyone. Her family and friends respected and admired her and she always had company. She never let you leave her home empty-handed, whether it be with food, home grown vegetables or her wise advice. Her generosity knew no bounds.  She was a voracious reader of two newspapers every day as well as countless magazines.  A fan of the political scene, she was always well versed about the hot topics of the day.

Her passions in life were cooking, gardening and taking care of her family, who she served homemade Italian dishes and her famous apple cake. She was the best there was. She was known for her gardening and even up until two months ago, she had the biggest, juiciest tomatoes in Torrington. She loved her beautiful garden and wonderful flowers.

Gina was unbelievably strong and intelligent, a beautiful Mom and Nonnie.  She was a blessing to her family and friends and will be dearly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington. Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery.
