George H. Harvey, Jr.

October 2, 1928 — February 18, 2018

George H. Harvey, Jr., 89, of Winchester, CT, died Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Valinsky) Harvey for 59 years.

George was born October 2, 1928, in North Bergen, NJ, son of the late George and Ina (Mercer) Harvey.  A gifted baseball pitcher, George played for the minor league Kingston Ponies, a farm team for the Boston Braves. He went on to honorably serve his country with the US Army during the Korean War.  George worked at the Minelco Company as a Design Draftsman until his retirement.

George was a fan of the New York Yankees, Mets, and Giants. He loved Big Band and jazz music, and over his lifetime amassed an extensive collection of records and CDs. Of special note was his irreverent sense of humor, a legacy he passed down to his daughters and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Patricia Harvey-Wiegand (Mark) of Newburgh, NY, Jane Harvey (Tony Giannone) of Chelmsford, MA, and Nancy Healy (James "Rus") of Canadice, NY, and two grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Trevor Healy.

Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cook Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Winsted Area Ambulance Association, 655 Main St., Winsted, CT 06098 or to a charity of your choice.
