George M Ayazides, 87 of Torrington, CT passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Carmina (Finello) Ayazides for 58 years.
George was born May 26, 1937, in Scranton PA. He was the son of Costi Ayazides, a Pontian Greek originally from Turkey and Panagiota (Calomeris) Ayazides, a Spartan Greek, originally from Geraki, Greece. George graduated from Killingly High School. He worked at his Uncle George Calomeris’s “Eat More“ restaurant in Danielson, CT during his younger years. He graduated from the UConn School of Engineering. George served his country as a Specialist 4, Electrical Engineer in the US Army. He was employed by General Time Corporation and Nidec of America until his retirement. George was a member of the Torrington, CT Lions Club. Second to loving his family, George loved to work and do research. So much so, that he carried his briefcase everywhere, everyday.
George was an avid UConn and Boston Red Sox fan and was a proud Little League coach. Nothing would make him happier than being surrounded by family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Christopher Ayazides of Collinsville, Alexandra Colavecchio and her husband, David, of Thomaston, George Ayazides JR of Torrington, and Thad Ayazides and his wife Hillary of Ashaway, Rhode Island. He was the devoted and beloved “Papou“ to Andrew and Anna Colavecchio and Kai Ayazides. He is also survived by his cousin Peter Chrisanthopoulos of Philadelphia, PA and Nikolaos and Athanasios Koutsovitis of Athens, Greece.
Graveside service will be held 1 PM on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Saint Peter‘s Cemetery, 236 East Pearl Rd., Torrington, with military honors accorded.
