Filomena (Minnie) Giannattasio, 103, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Jerome Home in New Britain, CT. She was the widow of Joseph Giannattasio.
Minnie was born on May 30, 1912, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of Georgine and Sabatino Camperchioli.
From an early age Minnie loved sewing, this led her to study and graduate from Brooklyn Design Academy. She continued her love for sewing throughout her life by designing and sewing her own dresses, gowns and school clothing for her children. During the depression years, Minnie worked for Metropolitan Insurance Co., in New York City. Minnie met the love of her life while living in Brooklyn. They were married in 1939 and in 1940 Minnie and her husband moved to Torrington to start their new life and to raise their family. Minnie loved to bake and cook Italian dishes. She enjoyed knitting, Crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Minnie and her husband loved traveling to Italy to spend time with their relatives. In 2012, at the age of 100, Minnie was the recipient of the Extraordinary Elder Wisdom Award. She was a member of the Sullivan Senior Center for over 36 years where she volunteered for various programs and activities. While a member at the center, she met many wonderful people.
Minnie is survived by her son Joseph Giannattasio and wife Christine, her daughter Anna Zeller and husband Robert, her daughter-in-law Carol Giannattasio, her sister, Jeanette Caravuto, two grandchildren, Lisa Stevens and Joseph Giannattasio, four great grandchildren, Nicholas, Jenna, Joseph and Samantha, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Anthony Giannattasio and Richard Giannattasio; two sisters, Mary Bruscino and Celia Levine, and two brothers, Charles Camperchioli and Vincent Camperchioli.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Jerome Home for all of their loving and compassionate care, and also to Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery.
