Eva (Lombardi) DiPlacito, 90, of Torrington, CT, was taken home to heaven on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.
Eva was born April 21, 1925, to Maria Lombardi and Luciano Lombardi in Tewksbury, MA, but was brought to Villa San Michele, Italy when she was seven months old. She always described growing up in Italy with her brother John as a very joyous time. She returned to the U.S. in 1951, and totally embraced the American culture. She was employed by General Time until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, cleaning, and making Italian cookies, but most of all celebrating life with family and friends. Eva was a communicant of St. Peter Church, and a member of the Holy Rosary Society since 1952 and also the St. Anne Society. Her faith was an inspiration to all who knew her. She touched the hearts of everyone she met and had words of wisdom for all.
She was the wife of the late Mario DiPlacito and the beloved mother of Mary Melaragno and Anna DeMayo. She is also survived by her special son-in-law, Dr. Joseph DeMayo, five grandchildren whom she adored; Jason Melaragno and his wife Roxanne who Eva considered a sixth grandchild, Jeffrey Melaragno, Jessica, Jillian and Joseph DeMayo and a great grandson, Jacob DeMayo; her loyal and devoted brother and sister-in-law, John and Angie Lombardi, and special niece and nephews, Lucy, Sal and John. She also leaves behind treasured friends and relatives, especially the Santo Calabrese family and her furry and faithful companions, Hershey and Aurora. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Victor Melaragno.
To know Eva was to love her. Her passing has left a void in our lives, but, she will forever remain in our hearts and minds.
The family would like to thank the staff of Vitas Hospice, all of her caregivers, and especially to thank Odell for his compassion shown to Eva and to her family.
