Eugene "Gene" J. Barbero

Eugene “Gene” J. Barbero, 72, of Winchester Center, CT, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of Sharon (Hurlbut) Barbero for 26 years.

Gene was born May 20, 1943, in Torrington, CT son of the late Joseph and Rosemarie (Pietrafesa) Barbero.  He was a self employed contractor who owned Barbero Building, and also was a real estate agent for William Raveis Real Estate Group, and formerly with Tom Mettling Real Estate.  He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, the Germania Society, and was an avid Yankee Fan.  Gene also loved to collect fine wines, golf, and spend his time at his home at Cape Cod every weekend during the summer months.

In addition to his wife Sharon, he is survived by two sons Michael Barbero (Linda) of Huntersville, NC, Mathew Laukaitis (Maureen) of Torrington; one daughter, Christina Niziolek (Mark) of Burlington, CT;  one brother, Thomas  Barbero (Emily) of Torrington; one sister, Rose Marchetti of Torrington; one brother-in-law, Gary Hurlbut of Winchester; five grandchildren, Evan, Zachary, Amy, Patrick and Joey; four great grandchildren, Julia, Sophia, Ava and his “little buddy” Liam, as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Perbeck and Roberta Bisciotti.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.  Relatives and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
