Erminia (Ermine) Kauer Daspit, 86, died April 2, 2014, at Havenwood Manor, in Lexington, VA. She was the daughter of the late Carmel and Rose (Minetto) Ubaldi and was born in Waterbury, CT on September 22, 1927.
A graduate of Crosby High School, she received her BS degree in chemistry from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA and her MA degree in Library Science from Columbia University. She was employed by DuPont / Westinghouse in their Savannah River Site as a technical librarian, researching literature for atomic energy scientists until her retirement in 1995. She lived most of her life in Aiken, S.C., volunteering at the Aiken Historical Society, the Aiken Regional Medical Center, and the ACTS an interfaith social services agency. She was a communicant of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church.
She is survived by a son, Brian Kauer, two grandchildren, Hayley and Brandon Kauer all of Walhalla, SC, a brother, Carmel Ubaldi and his wife Agatha of Lexington, VA, and a nephew Joshua Ubaldi of Los Angeles, CA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodson Daspit.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call in on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
