Erly Paul Gallo II was born September 6, 1968, to Dr. Erly Paul and Barbara Gallo. As the story goes, Erly never spoke until the age of four, at which time he said, “pass the ketchup please”. Erly kept a lot inside; and yet, he was the most loving brother, son and friend one could imagine.
Erly graduated from Johnson and Wales in 1990 and thus began his memorable career in food services. Although he was a chef of renown at many local restaurants, Erly is perhaps best remembered for his own restaurants, 3W and the Blue Bar in Litchfield, and Sophie in Watertown. “Celly”, as his family lovingly called him, had a quick wit and could have a perfect stranger instantly in stitches. He loved running, animals (especially his cat Oscar) and the outdoors. Everyone considered Erly an avid fisherman and hunter, but few knew that he often would sit in a tree stand just watching deer pass by, loving the beauty of nature.
Erly is survived by his sisters Dawn Gallo Scarpelli and her husband Dr. Peter Scarpelli of Winsted, Jennifer Gunter and her husband Dr. Michael Gunter, of Green Cove Springs, FL, and Erika Gallo, of Green Cove Springs, FL; his aunt Susan Golin and her husband Rick and children Joe and Julia; his uncle Francis Gallo, and his children, Paul, Joyce Ann and Kim Gallo; his cousins Frances, Geraldine and John Doyle; and many nieces and nephews.
Erly died on August 24th. His passing was too soon, and reminds us to cherish every moment with loved ones.
Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday, August 28th from 4 to 7pm at the Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield Street, Torrington. Condolences may be sent to Erly’s family by visiting www.cookfuneralhomect.com
