Emily (Corey) Leffingwell, 98, lifelong Torrington resident, passed peacefully on April 02, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Torrington October 20, 1926, to Frank Corey and Albertine (Lambert) Corey, Emily grew up in the Burrville section of Torrington and attended Torrington public schools.
In 1946 she married her sweetheart and partner of 71 years, John (Jack) Leffingwell. Together they started their successful business, Leffingwell Screw Machine Products, and raised their three children surrounded by family and friends in Burrville.
Emily was an avid golfer and member of Greenwoods Country Club. She especially loved the water, vacationing with her family in Maine, Florida and lakes around New England. But her greatest love was her family, and she was blessed to have spent her entire life surrounded by her parents, children, her siblings, loving nieces and nephews and cousins on Hayden Hill.
Emily is survived by her son and his wife, John and Roberta Leffingwell, her daughter and her husband, Lynn and Walter Combes and her son-in-law, Richard Bredice. She also leaves behind her granddaughter and her husband, Sarah and Dan Fernandes and their three beautiful children, John, Lily and Luke Fernandes of LaJolla, CA. She is also survived by her brother John Corey and family of Harwinton CT.
She was predeceased by her daughter Susan Bredice, Her loving husband Jack, brother Frank Corey and sisters Virginia Butler and Marjorie Cahill and her beloved cousin Katherine Mannion.
Emily’s family would like to thank her loving caregivers; the CNAs and LPNs of the Cottage of Litchfield Hills, the entire staff of Wolcott Hall where she spent her last days and a special thank you to the Hospice Nurses of HHCAH. Their kind and compassionate care made this difficult time much easier.
Emily will be remembered for her kindness, her gentle demeanor and as loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT with Pastor Steven Darr officiating. Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
