Eleanore (Newberg) Denza

Eleanore (Newberg) Denza, 93, of Torrington, CT, passed suddenly Sunday, August 9, 2020.  She was the beloved wife of the late John A. Denza.

Eleanore was born September 6, 1926, in Rocky Hill, CT, the daughter of the late George and Anna (Pearson) Newberg.  She was a graduate of New Britain Teachers College (now known as Central Connecticut State University).  She taught in the Wethersfield School System before moving to Torrington and teaching at North School for several years.  She was a member of the NEA and CEA.  She volunteered for the American Red Cross, the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Telethon, the Civitan Club fundraising projects, and at the Charlotte Hungerford Gift Shop for many years.

She is survived by three sons, James (Anne) of Madrid, Spain, Thomas (Katrina) of Southern Pines, NC, Michael of Torrington, CT; one daughter Janet Beal (Andrew) of Leland, NC; eight grandchildren, Kyla Harol (Christoper), Benjamin Fox (Bethany), Nicola Denza, Brittany Denza, Alexander Denza, David Stewart, Kacy (Bowe) Nicholas, Lori Beal, and seven great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

Eleanore’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the compassion and care extended to her by the residents and staff at Keystone and especially to her caregiver Jenn from Companions and Homemakers.

Private funeral services have been entrusted to Cook Funeral Home.
