Edward J. Nawalaniec, 91, of Torrington, CT, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Thelma (Halstead) Nawalaniec.
Ed was born December 6, 1923, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Stanley and Rose (Stanislawscyk) Nawalaniec. He served his country with the US Army during WWII. Among the awards and decorations he received upon his honorable discharge were the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. A dental technician by trade, he owned and operated B & N Dental Lab until his retirement. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, the Knights of Columbus, the High Riders Snowmobile Club, and was a former member of the Veneta Club.
He is survived by one son, Peter Nawalaniec; two daughters, Linda Prindle and Nancy Hoysradt all of Torrington; one sister, Helen LaPorta of Winsted; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Marie Heerz. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Nawalaniec, Stanley Nawalaniec and two sisters, Blanche Cisowski and Jennie Dzinski.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015, with the cortege leaving at 12:00 noon from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
