Diane Marie (Eucalitto) Mahoney

July 14, 1949 — April 27, 2020

Torrington, CT

Diane Marie Eucalitto Mahoney passed away Monday, April 27, 2020 at the home of her sister and brother in law after a short battle with cancer. She was 70 years old.

Diane was born on July 14, 1949 in Torrington, Connecticut. She was the daughter of the late Guerino (Willy) and Lucy (Marracino) Eucalitto. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Mahoney Kilduff, son in law, Ryan Kilduff, granddaughter Harper Jane Kilduff and grandson Aiden Joshua Kilduff, all of Breckenridge, Colorado, a sister Cynthia Gelzinis and brother in law Fran Gelzinis of Torrington, a brother Mark Eucalitto and his wife Jo-Ann Zalaski of Burlington, CT, a niece Elena DeAngelis, her husband Mike DeAngelis and a grand nephew Hunter DeAngelis of Torrington.

Diane’s kindness and caring had an effect on the lives of countless people. She worked as a nurse in a medical office for over 30 years. Patients there were blessed to have her as their nurse and many became lifelong friends. Friends and family always relied on her for her helpful medical advice. Later in life, when she worked for the Sullivan Senior Center, many more people benefitted from her kindness and compassion.

But nursing was not her only interest or skill. She was an excellent cook, baker and candy maker. Friends, family and customers at craft shows enjoyed her delicious creations. She thrived on giving unique homemade gifts, developing chocolate creations, and planning and preparing for parties and family gatherings. She had a special way of always finding creative ways to make people smile.

In 2017, after her granddaughter was born, she moved to Breckenridge, CO to be with her daughter and her family. Although she missed her family and friends back in Connecticut, she knew in her heart that she needed to be there. While living in Breckenridge, she worked at a major hotel serving breakfast and then in a local bakery. Soon after her cancer diagnosis this past January, her grandson Aiden was born. Even when she was in the hospital all she cared about was being with family.

In March she came back to Torrington to continue her treatment. Though she was a fighter, unfortunately the disease took her life and she passed with loving family by her side.

Per her wishes, no public services will be held. Please consider making a donation to Hartford Healthcare Hospice, 680 Main Street, Watertown, CT 06779. These caregivers are truly compassionate people and took wonderful care of Diane in her final weeks of life.
