Derwin S. Vaill, 87, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away at his home on Thursday, April 7, 2022, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Alma (Formaggioni) Vaill for 67 years.
Der was born September 3, 1934, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Derwin and Evelyn (Schroeder) Vaill. He was a graduate of the Torrington High School Class of 1952. In 1949 his Dad started a milk hauling business, Rapid Dairy Transport. Der took over Rapid Dairy and ran it successfully, at times with six of his children working there until he retired and sold it to his son Ken. Der was a member of the Masonic and Shriner organizations. He loved to watch the UCONN men and women’s basketball teams and was an avid NASCAR fan.
In addition to his wife Alma, he is survived by seven children, David Vaill (Angie), Kenneth Vaill (Chris), Mickey Vaill (Kathryn), Jayne Sholtis (Norman), Jimmy Vaill, Glenn Vaill (Stacie), Jerry Vaill; eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and two very special friends Sharon and Patty.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 12:00 noon, at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
