David P. Foth

David P. Foth, 83, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of Rose Marie (Fedor) Foth for 58 years. He was her high school sweetheart and soulmate.

David was born May 24, 1938, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Hugo and Julia (Kiesel) Foth.  He served his country with the US Army in Fort Bragg, NC. He was employed by Aerospace as a machinist until his retirement. David worked many years with Fitzgerald’s and Bertolette Machines. He was a man of precision and perfection. If he built it, it would last forever!

In addition to his wife Rose Marie, he is survived by two daughters, Donna Marcella of Torrington, CT, Kathy-Ann Campbell of Winsted, CT; a sister, Nancy Young of Litchfield, CT; four grandchildren, Alex and Connor Campbell, Devin and Lynsey Marcella, as well as several nieces, Laurie Otis and Michelle Rinaldi and nephews, Stephen Fedor and Michael Lussier.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Fedor.

Dave’s life was centered around his beloved family and his pets, Mindy and Puss-Puss. Care and compassion were ingrained in Dave. He cared for many elderly relatives and always attended family gatherings. Dave radiated joy over his 4 grandchildren. He was not a loud fan, but the proudest, whether watching swim meets, driving his Grandson to baseball games in NY, cheering at soccer matches or beaming at graduations and many award ceremonies.

Dave shared his love of the ocean, vintage cars, baseball, fishing, and collecting by effortlessly teaching and sharing his passions with each generation. Dave loved visiting minor league ball parks with his wife and family on many vacations, as well as American Austin Bantam Car Club Shows. He loved to converse with strangers who shared his interests and many times they became his lifelong friends. Dave enjoyed vacations in Chincoteague where he would enjoy catching the local seafood. Dave was an avid Sports Memorabilia collector. He coached youth in the Varsity Alumni Basketball League and was key to the transformation of Torrington LL to Steve Blass Baseball League. You could always find Dave tinkering in the garage and the basement. He loved watching old cowboy movies and Rosie became hooked too. Sunsets, birdwatching and celebrating many momentous occasions at Copake always kept a smile on his face. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up at the lake with their sparklers, kayaks, sailboats, paddleboats, and fishing poles. His goal was to be around family as much as possible and share his Cottage on the Lake.

Dave was a member of The Litchfield County Collecting Club and The American Austin Bantam Car Club where he proudly displayed the car that “Makes You Smile.”

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT.  Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery with full military honors accorded.  Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
