Daniel R. DiGiovanni

Daniel R. DiGiovanni, 94, passed away on December 8, 2020, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born in Torrington on October 2, 1926, he was the son of the late Donato and Rosina (Chieffo) DiGiovanni.   He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was employed by Lombard Bros. Transportation Co. for many years.   He was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Church, a member of the St. Peter’s Holy Name Society, and the Torrington Elks Lodge.

Always young at heart and blessed with boundless energy, Dan remained engaged in many activities through every decade of his life.  He could frequently be found outdoors, gardening and doing yardwork.  He was an avid downhill skier and continued to enjoy the sport well into his eighties.  He was a loyal fan of the UCONN Women’s Basketball Team, often adjusting his schedule to watch their games.  He also enjoyed all kinds of music and was an ardent Sinatra fan.  Dan’s resiliency and optimistic approach to life were fully evident nine years ago when he overcame a serious bout with cancer.  Since then, his doctors have referred to him as their 'miracle man’.

Dan was always ready with a smile, a kind word, or a helping hand.  He was devoted to his family and to many longtime friends.  He will be sorely missed.

Dan was predeceased by his three brothers, Carmen, Patsy and Louis, and three sisters, Teresa Basso, Mary Ur, and Ann Ohotnicky.  He is survived by two nieces, Loreen Sellitto, of New Hartford and Naples, FL, and Rita DiGiovanni, of Lincoln, MA; his nephew, Andrew Ohotnicky, of Torrington; and several great nephews and nieces, and many cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Peter Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish), 99 East Main St, Torrington, followed by burial with military honors at New St. Francis Cemetery, 863 South Main St., Torrington, CT.  There are no calling hours.  Relatives and friends attending funeral services must follow CDC recommendations for COVID prevention, by following social distancing and wearing protective face masks.
