Clara (Pieretti) Cuozzo

March 31, 1928 — February 12, 2017

Clara (Pieretti) Mazzoni Cuozzo, 88, died Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Litchfield Woods. She was the wife of the late Ermanno Mazzoni and the late Anthony F. “Tony” Cuozzo.

Clara was born in San Romano, Luca, Italy on March 31, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Nello A. and Maria (Giaccacini) Pieretti.

Clara was the Head Assistant Manager of Nitkin’s Dress Store, owned by Melton and Sylvia Nitkin, for 20 years. It was located on Water Street in Torrington, CT. After leaving Nitkin’s, she attended college classes and became a consultant for the Torrington Company until she retired. She suffered the loss of her husband, Ermanno and later reunited with her High School sweetheart, Tony. They were happily married for over 30 years.

Clara is survived by six children, Neal (Lori) Mazzoni of Brunswick,OH, Denise (Peter) Nowak of Winsted, CT, Tony Cuozzo of New Hartford, CT, Mark (Betty Ann) Cuozzo of New Hartford, CT, David Cuozzo of Torrington CT, and Joyce Lesieur of El Paso, Texas; one sister in law, Philomena “Phyllis” Hopkins of Torrington, CT; one cousin, Tino Vannini; one godchild, Tina Marie Vannini; ten grandchildren, Christopher, Allyce, Jeffrey, Leslie, Michael, Ryan, Nikki, Lydia, Melanie, and Dani; as well as 2 great grandchildren, Victoria and Alex. She was predeceased by four cousins, Frank Diani, Egidio Diani, Alfred Vannini, and Corrine Vannini.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St, Torrington to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at New St. Francis Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
