Claire (Horsman) Werner, 87, of Harwinton , CT , passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 , at Hartford Hospital . She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred K. Werner.
Claire was born on March 9, 1927 in Cambridge , MA , only child of the late Albert and Evelyn (Archer Doane) Horsman. She moved to Plainville , CT as a child. Claire attended schools in Plainville, graduating with the class of 1945.
After marrying Al in June 1958, they moved to Harwinton where they raised their family. Claire was the secretary of St. Paul Church in Torrington for over twenty years, then worked as an Assessor for several years in Harwinton, Burlington and Farmington , retiring at the age of 82.
She was an active, long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Hartford where she enjoyed singing in the choir and helping organize their annual tag sale. For many years, Claire and Al would sell their hand crafted cement lawn ornaments at craft fairs throughout CT. She enjoyed gardening, acting in plays, shopping for antiques and hunting for treasures at area tag sales. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Lincoln Taylor and his wife, Sera of Bristol, CT, Dean Werner and his wife, Annemarie of Winchester, CT; her daughter, Joyce Chmura and her husband, Steve of Plainville, CT; her son-in-law, Thomas Zotter and his wife, Laura of Southwick, MA; ten grandchildren, Eric Taylor, Evelyn Andrews and her husband, Dan, Ethan Werner and his wife, Sarah, Todd Werner and his wife, Amy, Halley Werner, Gregory Zotter, Brittany Zotter, Jeffrey Zotter, Alyssa Chmura and Nicholas Chmura, seven great grandchildren, Autumn Germaine, Lucas Werner, Isobel Grober, Meta Grober, Adelaide Grober, Austin Johnson and Lily Johnson, her sisters-in-law, Beverly Werner, Ruth Neumann and Irma Schaffrick, brother-in-law Donald Schaffrick and several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Alfred and her daughter, Barbara Zotter.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 , at 1:00p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church , 30 Prospect St. , New Hartford , CT 06057 .
