Carmine Bossone Jr., 89, of Torrington, passed away on January 20, 2016, at Wolcott Hall. Born in West Hartford on January 30, 1926, he was the son of the late Carmine and Anna (Pozinski) Bossone. He was the spouse of the late Irene (Colligan) Bossone.
A veteran of World War II, Carmine served in the European Campaign and received the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with two Battle Stars. The two Battle Stars were for action in the Rhineland and Central Europe. He also received the Army of Occupation Ribbon for Germany.
Carmine was employed by the Torrington Company for ten years where he was an active UAW Local 1645 member. He was part of the negotiating team that got the first pension plan for Torrington Company employees. He served as the vice –president and president of Local 1645 until leaving to work for the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections in 1961. He retired as a lieutenant in the Department of Corrections after twenty years of service in 1985.
An avid fly fisherman, he enjoyed showing others the basics of fly fishing.
Carmine is survived by his brother, Emilio Bossone of Torrington and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Irene, he was predeceased by his sister, Marcella Higgins.
