Carmen A. Colangelo, 82, of Torrington, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Litchfield Woods Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Claire (Bush) Colangelo.
Carmen was born on June 8, 1932, in Torrington, son of the late Joseph and Lucy (Verlatta) Colangelo. He was employed at the Torrington Company in the Plating Department until his retirement. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge during June of 1954, he received the national defense service medal.
He was past president of the Sons of Italy Lodge and bowled in Sons of Italy League . He was active in playing softball and he played for the Torrington Company as well as many other softball teams over the years.
Carmen’s family would like to thank the staff at Litchfield Woods for the care and compassion shown to him and to his family while he was a patient there.
He is survived by five brothers; Anthony “Sonny” Colangelo, of Torrington, Joseph Colangelo, Jr. of Torrington, Raymond “Brook” Colangelo of Torrington, Dennis Colangelo of Florida, Andrew Colangelo of Torrington, a sister Linda Marie Ferris of Torrington, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Vito “Billy” Colangelo.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 8, 2014, with the cortege leaving at 11:00 a .m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield Street to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, with full military honors accorded. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
