Carmelo “Carmen” Zappulla, 85, of Torrington, CT, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Charlotte Hungerford Hosptial. He was the beloved husband of Josephine (Santangelo) Zappulla for 60 years.
Carmen was born November 6, 1931, in Florida, Sicily, Italy, the son of the late Joseph and Paolina (DiMauro) Zappulla. After he served his native country with the Italian Army, and later traveled with his family to the United States in 1966. He was employed by Sterling Engineering as a Machinist until his retirement.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by one daughter, Antoinette “Toni” Osterhout, and her husband Larry of Torrington; one brother, Sebastian Zappulla of Berlin, CT; one sister, Santina Caccomo of Rocky Hill, CT; two granddaughters, Julianne and Joline Osterhout; one great grandson, Venrease, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula J. Zappulla on September 16, 2005.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017, with the cortege leaving at 11:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. noon. Entombment will follow at St. Francis Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
