Canio "Kelly" Romaniello

July 5, 1924 — February 16, 2019

Torrington, CT

Canio “Kelly” Romaniello, 94, of Torrington, CT, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Atria Senior Living in Torrington after a long journey with dementia.  He was the beloved husband of Theresa (Paganini) Romaniello for 73 years.

Kelly was born July 5, 1924, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Monaco) Romaniello.  He lived all of his life in Torrington. A graduate of Torrington High School, he spent the majority of his working years employed as a tool and die maker at the Excelsior Plant of the Torrington Company and he treasured the friendships he cultivated there.

Kelly was an accomplished athlete and excelled at baseball and basketball and served as the Captain of the Torrington High School baseball team. With great pride he was one of the founders of the original Torrington Little League in the 1950s. Later in life, when he deemed a gentler sport was in order, he embraced golf, but he always said excelling at the sport eluded him!

Like so many of his generation, Kelly proudly served his country during WWII.

In addition to his wife Theresa, he is survived by his son, Thomas Romaniello and his wife Dawn of Harwinton, his daughter Catherine Hughes of Torrington, his grandchildren Christopher, Sara, Jordan, Marissa, and Britteny; and his great grandchildren Brooklyn, Aiden, Connor, and Rilyn and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a daughter Nancy who was born in 1955.

Funeral services will be private and have been entrusted to Cook Funeral Home.

The family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Memory Care at Atria Senior Living and the Hospice staff of Foothills VNA in Winsted for Kelly’s care.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Connecticut. Should you wish to verbally celebrate his life, sing a rousing rendition of Take Me Out to the Ball Game.  Condolences may be sent to the Romaniello family by visiting www.cookfuneralhomect.com
