Bernard E. Lach, Sr.

May 7, 1930 — June 7, 2016

Bernard E. Lach, Sr., 86, of Torrington, CT, entered into eternal life on June 7, 2016, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with his family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of Mary (Frigo) Lach for 63 years.

Bernie was born May 7, 1930, in Torrington, CT, son of the late John and Mary (Hanecak) Lach.  He was employed by the City of Torrington for 37 years as a fire fighter, and retired as Chief during 1991. A lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart Church, he served in many capacities, most recently as a lector and a member of the Angels of Hospitality.  He and his wife were honored as recipients of the St. Joseph’s Medal by Archbishop Henry J. Mansell in recognition of their lifelong stewardship.  Bernie loved to travel, and did so to over 50 Countries and all 50 States.  He loved to work in his gardens, and took pride in his flower beds.  He loved to make soup, bake gluten free breads, and tell a good story.  Above all he loved his family.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by five children, Monica Herrington (David) of Chestertown, NY; Rosanne Ziogas of Avon, CT, Bernard E. Lach, Jr. (Heidi) of Eagan, MN, Cynthia Tillotson (Alan) of Ramsey, NJ, Jennifer Gill (Paul) of Rahway, NJ;  one brother, John Lach (Judy) of Torrington; five grandchildren, Erika Eng (Timothy), Katharine and Margaret Tillotson; June and Kean Gill, several nieces, nephews and cousins in the US and Slovakia, especially his cousin Andrew Lach, Jr. and many friends.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Andrew Lach and one sister, Mary Nelson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016, with the cortege leaving at 10:00 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to Sacred Heart Church, 116 Grove Street, Torrington, CT, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.   Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, June 9, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home
