Archie Perez, 96, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at his home.
Archie was born January 17, 1928, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Samele) Perez. He graduated from Hillyer College (University of Hartford) after serving his country with the U.S. Army. He then was employed by the State of Connecticut as an Accountant until his retirement.
Archie’s passion was water skiing with the Laurel Water Ski Club and visiting with his lifelong friends. He loved Highland Lake. He and his wife Shirley bought the lake cottages in the 1960’s and spent summers there with their children. He often sat on his deck and believed it to be the only resort he needed. He could be counted on to help neighbors around the lake. He was a strong proponent of preserving the environment on the lake, serving with the HLWA for many years. His winter activity was snowmobiling, a new sport at the time. He and his friends traveled to Canada and created epic stories of their adventures.
He is survived by two daughters Candy Perez (Nora Mocarski) of Winsted, CT, Sheree Cross (David) of Highland, NY, one niece Anne Worrall (Jim Williams); grandchildren Lindsay (Eidel (Kevin), Heather Dionne (Jason), and Scott Cross, as well as six great grandchildren, Jayden, Gavin, Quinn, Griffin, Parker, and Carson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David J. Perez, and a sister, Fortunate Worrall.
The family would like to thank the caregivers (Coco & Lucy), nurses and doctors he has had over the past few years.
Friends are invited to his celebration of life on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the lake house at 606 West Wakefield Blvd. beginning at 4:30 p.m. We will take him on his “last boat ride” later that evening. Burial will be private at St. Peter Cemetery and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Winchester Land Trust, Laurel Ridge Project, P. O. Box 10, Winchester Center, CT 06094. Condolences may be sent to the Perez family by visiting www.cookfuneralhomect.com
