Anthony “Tony” A. Gioia, Jr., 77, of Harwinton, CT died Sunday, February 10, 2019, at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of Anne (Hamilton) Gioia for 48 years.
Tony was born August 7, 1941, in Winsted, CT, son of the late Carmella “Millie” (DiMauro) and Anthony A. Gioia, Sr. Tony attended Riverside School and graduated from Torrington High School. He retired from O&G Industries after working most of his life in the autobody business. Tony was a past member of both the Harwinton Ambulance and Harwinton Fire Police and a longtime member of the Torrington Elks Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and yard work.
For nearly 50 years, Tony and Anne celebrated Easter by hosting his extended family and friends for an Omelet Breakfast. A tradition passed down from his Grandparents Antonio and Lucia Gioia.
In addition to his wife Anne, he is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth L. Gioia of New Hartford CT; two sisters, Priscilla Conlon of Torrington, CT, Lauretta Pipa Glover of Lady Lake, FL; several nieces and nephews, a fraternal aunt Mabel Gioia Woolley of New Hartford, CT and a large extended family of cousins he held dear.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis New Cemetery, 863 South Main Street, Torrington, followed by a reception at Marino’s Restaurant. There are no calling hours.
