Anthony J. “Tony” Gentile, 88, of Torrington, CT, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021, and was lovingly welcomed in the Heavenly arms of his predeceased wife Jaqueline (Boyle), daughters Debi Baldwin, Candy Fox, his companion of 36 years Pat Murtagh and stepson Scott Murtagh.
Tony was the son of Antonio and Antonina (Barone) Gentile. Tony leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law Kathi and Dom Giglio of Torrington, CT, his sister and brother-in-law Marie and Mike Farkas of Harwinton, CT, granddaughter Shawn Pellegren and Bobby Carreiro of Gretna, LA, grandson Kevin and his wife Christina Baldwin of Torrington, CT; two sons-in-law Wes and his wife Jodi Baldwin of New Hartford, CT, Barry Fox of Torrington, CT; a stepson Brian and his wife T.J. and his step grandchildren Lauren and Robert Murtagh all of Sharon, CT, and several nieces and nephews.
Tony was born in Providence, RI; his family moved to Torrington in 1940. Tony served in the United States Army. He owned and operated a corner Grocery Store in Torrington where he started his family whom he loved dearly and lived for. He was the Store Manager of Stop ‘n’ Save Supermarket in Torrington for over 20 years and he was also a Manager for Trotta’s Supermarkets in Sharon, CT and Millerton, NY for twenty years, retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends including spending every Summer for almost forty years at Highland Lake in Winsted where he built his family an A-Frame house. He also enjoyed vacationing to many different places and going to his second home that he built on Cape Cod. He was also pretty adventurous, learning how to fly a Plane a little later in life, parasailing, and at 82 years “young” he enjoyed zip lining and simulated sky diving! In recent years, Tony enjoyed spending time with his friends daily at Dunkin Donuts.
Private funeral services have been entrusted to Cook Funeral Home, Torrington, CT.
