Anne "Nancy" (Travers) Skinner

Torrington, Connecticut

Anne "Nancy" (Travers) Skinner passed away peacefully on April 23, 2021, at Keystone Place at Newbury Brook in Torrington the beloved wife of Robert "Bob" Skinner for 61 years.  She was born at home in New Britain on August 11, 1934, the second daughter of the late Howard M. and Helen (Heath) Travers.

She was educated in New Britain at St Mary School and graduated from New Britain High School in 1952. She was then employed at Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Company for nearly ten years. Nancy and Bob were married on June 20, 1959, at St Francis of Assisi Church in New Britain. They made their home in New Britain for the next three years.

The Skinner family relocated to Torrington in 1962 when Bob was transferred there by his employer, The Hartford Electric Light Company, which required its Operations employees to live close to its service centers.

When the children required less supervision, Nancy was employed for short periods at Michael's Jewelers and Torrington Brass & Steel Company.

In 2014, as longtime parishioners of St Thomas of Villanova Church in Goshen, Nancy and Bob were awarded The St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation by the Archdiocese of Hartford, in recognition of their service to the Church.

She is survived by her children Christopher Skinner Sr. of Torrington and Lisa Pepin (husband Albert) of Windsor Locks. Seven grandchildren: Kelly Skinner and beaux Mark Orensteen, Christopher Skinner Jr. Rachel Skinner, Sarah (Pepin) Hartnett and husband Brian, Tyler Pepin and wife Kerry. Allison Pepin and fiancé Nick Varner, and Conor Pepin. Four great grandchildren, Isabella Skinner and Fiona, Riley and Greer Hartnett. She was also survived by several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister Jean (Travers) Silverio.

The family wishes to thank Hartford Health Care Independence at Home and Hospice. A special thank you to home care aides Alice and Dana for the exceptional care they provided to Nancy during her last months at home. Also thank you to the nurses and Care Managers at Keystone Place for their excellent service as well.

Arrangements entrusted to Cook Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St Thomas of Villanova Church, (St. Louis de Montfort Parish), on North Street in Goshen. Burial will follow in the St Thomas Cemetery. Anyone attending MUST observe Covid 19 precautions requiring face masks and social distancing guidelines.
