Albert H. Hricko, 97, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021, surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 13, 1924, to Veronica (Hanicak) and John Hricko. Albert was the seventh of eight children.
At age 14 during the Great Depression, he was asked to learn to play piano in order to earn some money for his family. That was the beginning of a lifelong love of music. He played out professionally with a quartet for most of his adult life. His favorite music was Swing, Big Band and Boogie Woogie.
Albert was a dedicated husband and loving father. He built a home for his family in Torrington based on knowledge from a book and help from his brothers. He gathered all the stones by hand for the basement and outside wall. He lived in that home until his death.
He served his country as a Merchant Marine during World War II. At the time of his honorable discharge, he held the rank of Lieutenant. He was employed by The Torrington Company as an electrician until his retirement. Albert’s creative spirit included building musical instruments, playing piano and any instrument he could get his hands on. After retirement, he spent endless hours in White’s Woods teaching all the trails to his daughter who continues to hike there.
He is pre-deceased by his loving wife, Christine (DiPippo) Hricko. He leaves behind his devoted daughter Christine Hricko and son Albert Hricko, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
