Sam V. LaRocco, 98, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away with his children by his side on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Lucie (D’Amico) LaRocco.
Sam was born April 7, 1925, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Angelo and Rosa (Diaso) LaRocco. He served his country with the U.S. Army, honorably discharged in 1945. Among the awards and decorations, he received were the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. Sam was a master plumber with is own plumbing and heating business for many years. He took care of his customers like family and many became his lifelong friends. He was employed by the State of Connecticut as an Estimator until his retirement.
Sam was a lifelong communicant of St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish) where he served as an usher for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Torrington Elks Lodge#372, and also of UNICO where he was honored as being the Italian Mayor for the Day in 2018. He was a longtime member of the Torrington Country Club where he and Lucie enjoyed the camaraderie of many golf tournaments and social events.
He is survived by four children, Donald J. LaRocco (Laurie) of Torrington, CT; Nancy Williams (Peter) of Canton, CT; Janet Rocco (Preston Owens) of Berlin, CT; Joyce Germano (Thomas) of Morris, CT; five grandchildren, Michael (Kayla) Germano, Matthew (Kathryn) Germano, Dana Rocco and Shawn Howell, Alexa (Jacob) Wilson, Melanie (Allen) Sedlack; twelve great grandchildren, as well as twenty nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and seven sisters, and his daughter-in-law Sandra (Schenk) LaRocco.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the ICU and hospice staff at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for their compassionate and professional care. Special thanks to Sam’s caregivers at home, Robin, Tracy, Savannah and Riannon for their love and kindness.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT to St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish), 99 East Main St., Torrington, CT, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
