Louis G. Corey, 85, of Torrington, CT, passed away Monday, January 29, 2024, at his residence. He was the husband of Linda (Buyak) Corey for 61years.
Louis was born April 29, 1938, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Edward and Jennie (Theeb) Corey. One of 11 children he was predeceased by his sisters and brothers, Bernice (Corey) Coon, Margaret Corey, Edward Corey, Jeannette (Corey) Tubbs, Robert Corey, Roger Corey and Stella Corey. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Karen Corey, and grandchildren twins, Earl Edward and Abraham Corey Winegar.
In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by three daughters, Sharon Corey (Jerry) Stallings of Virginia, Jeanne Corey ( Kim) Marchand of Winsted, CT and Shannon (Brian)Thomas, of Litchfield, CT, his brother, Michael (Elizabeth) Corey of Torrington, CT and sister, Frieda Corey of Torrington, CT, his grandchildren, Eva-Marie McGrath, Jennie Lynn Corey, Melinda Stallings, Paul Lopes, Jerre Stallings, Ryan Corey, Nathan Mogob and Madison Thomas, great grandchildren Kayleigh Shumaker, Ethan McGrath and Holden Scott Stallings, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Louis (Lou) was known for his pride in his Lebanese heritage and especially for his superb Lebanese cooking.
He served his country with the U. S. Army National Guard and began his active military career during the Flood of 1955. He began working at Torrington Manufacturing as a machinist, working his way to manager and became a consultant for the spring machine industry with SPX Cooling Technologies, travelling throughout the United States, Canada and abroad to Germany and Tawain.
He was President of the local U.A.W. 512, and extremely politically active, involved with the Democratic Town Committee, and was a delegate to the National Democratic Convention. He worked with the Labor Youth Coalition making life- long family friends. He served on the Board of Directors of the Tormanco Credit Union and was a member of the Torrington Elks Lodge #372.
Louis’ humor, strong political opinions and magnetic presence with all of his family and friends will be greatly missed.
The Divine Liturgy of Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at St. Maron’s Church, 613 Main St., Torrington, CT. Burial will be private.
